Orchestra seating chart

Most orchestras use a fairly standard seating chart. Look at the chart below, and think about the following questions:

  • Why is the percussion section at the back of the orchestra?
  • Why are the violins, violas and cellos at the front?
  • Why do you think it’s a good idea for orchestras around the world to respect a standard seating arrangement?
